It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of sweet Amaya Renee Otunuya, who was born sleeping on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in Temple, Texas. As one of two identical twins, Amaya embarked on her eternal journey to be with the Lord.
From the moment Mr. and Mrs. Otunuya found out they were expecting their “two little cuties”, a nod to the only thing that mom could eat without adverse effect (mandarins), their hearts brimmed with joy and anticipation for these immensely loved little ones. On March 24, which also marked her father's birthday, an official doctor's appointment confirmed the miraculous news of the twins. The couple was eager to welcome their precious daughters and showered them with love even before their arrival. Jessica experienced the joys and challenges of pregnancy, craving mandarins and string cheese, while Isaiah greeted each new day with heartfelt "Good Mornings" directed towards his girls. The atmosphere in their home was filled with laughter, love, and musical praise, as Jessica would sing gospel hymns that echoed her deep faith—including favorites like "Incredible God-Incredible Praise" and "Brighter Day."
As the days passed, the twins shared a special bond, often described as a compassionate hug, cradled closely in their mother’s womb. Even up to the point of Amaya’s last breath, her twin sister comforted her head-to-head and chest-to-chest.
Amaya is survived by her devoted parents, Isaiah and Jessica Otunuya, and her twin sister, Alani, who remains actively growing in mom’s belly. Amaya will forever be cherished for the brief but beautiful moments they shared with her. Though her time with us was fleeting, her impact on the hearts of her family is indelible. As they navigate the days ahead, they carry with them the love and light that Amaya brought, holding on to their memories until they meet again.
Amaya Renee Otunuya's spirit will remain a cherished part of her family’s story, a reminder of love's enduring presence, even within a brief life.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sabrina Young at Young's Daughters Funeral Home and Bereavement Center.
