Bobbie Ruth Hicks, a dedicated and steadfast woman known for her quiet strength and exceptional work ethic, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday May 16, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Born on January 6, 1944, in Houston, Texas, Bobbie Ruth lived a life marked by devotion to her family, commitment to her career, and an enduring spirit that touched many.
Bobbie Ruth graduated from Jeff Davis High School and furthered her education at Temple Junior College. She embarked on a notable career path, initially working for the Temple Police Department, followed by her tenure at Texas Utilities. She later transferred to Scott and White, where she dedicated many years of service working for Dr. Daryl Crisp until her retirement. As an executive secretary, Bobbie Ruth embraced every business attribute with excellence and reliability, earning respect and admiration from all who worked alongside her. She took great pride in her work life, and her role often extended beyond professional duties as she cared deeply for her nephew through her caregiving efforts.
A steady and hardworking woman, Bobbie Ruth was known for managing a good home and accomplishing a great deal with quiet efficiency. Though not one for the spotlight, her steadfast nature and unwavering dedication were hallmarks of her character. She was a woman who embodied grace through her compassionate actions and steadfast loyalty to those she loved.
Bobbie Ruth’s personal life was marked by a beautiful love story. She was visited by Cecil Hicks and, after receiving a dozen roses, she instantly fell in love with his compassion and kindness. Their love blossomed into a lifelong partnership, culminating in over 54 years of marriage. Together, they were blessed with a son, Karl Joseph, affectionately known as "Joey." The family shared many cherished moments outdoors—camping and riding motorcycles—actively supporting and participating in organizations such as the Christian Motorcycle Association and the Statesman Motorcycle Club. Their involvement in these groups, particularly supporting the Temple chapters and events, reflected their strong community spirit and shared passions.
Bobbie Ruth is survived by her beloved husband, Cecil Hicks, who stood by her side through every trial and triumph. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Oscar and Ellen (Johnson) Beggs; her cherished son, Karl "Joey" Joseph Hicks; and three sisters, Ellen “Maxine” Beggs and Ethel “Marceil” Beggs and infant Mary Beggs; along with one infant baby brother. leaving behind treasured memories of family bonds and love.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Young's Daughters Funeral Home & Bereavement Center, located at 4235 E. US Hwy 190 in Temple, Texas. The funeral service will follow the visitation from 2:00 PM at the same location with Chaplain John and Danny officiating from Aspen Hospice . Burial will take place at Salado Cemetery, 1000 Salado Oaks Drive in Salado, Texas.
Bobbie Ruth Hicks’s life was a testament to dedication—in work, in love, and in family. She leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength and profound love that will be remembered by all who knew her. Her memory will continue to inspire those who cherish her.
