Bobby Dale Goates

Bobby Dale Goates, of Temple, Texas, passed away on September 23, 2026, in Temple, Texas. He was born on February 7, 1951, in Gorman, Texas.

Dale will be remembered as a hardworking man who worked for the BNSF Railroad as an Engineer for 40 years, and as someone who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved traveling to the mountains, and those who knew him will remember his spirited personality. He was a jokester who enjoyed picking on people in fun, and he cherished time with his family and friends. He also had a fondness for margaritas, which suited his warm and lively way of enjoying life.

His faith and fellowship were important parts of his life. Dale was a member of the Mason-Knob Creek Lodge #401 and also a member of Soldiers of the Cross Church in Nolanville, Texas. These connections reflected the values he carried throughout his life and the communities that were meaningful to him.

Above all, Dale loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Goates, with whom he shared a marriage that began on July 17, 1971. Their years together were the foundation of a family that brought him deep pride and lasting happiness. He is also survived by his son, Robert Goates, and spouse, Kristi; his daughter, Tracie Benson, and spouse, Kenneth; and his sister, Brenda McGuire, and Brenda’s spouse, Kenneth. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Kenneth, Kelcie, Troy, Kaylee, Kylie, Emma, Eli, and Renee, 3 nieces, Leann Bowden, Rhonda Jerigan, Kelly Hosch, Jeffery McGuire, each of whom was a treasured part of his life.

Dale’s memory will live on in the laughter he inspired, in the love he gave so freely, and in the many moments shared with those closest to him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing him.

A funeral service will be held on September 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Young's Daughters Funeral Home & Bereavement Center, 4235 E. US Hwy 190, Temple, Texas 76501. Burial will follow from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Greathouse Cemetery, 2343 East FM 93 near State Hwy 95, Temple, Texas 76502.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to a charity of your choice in Bobby Dale's honor.
