Little River

Donald Lane Curlee, affectionately known as "Pops," passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 15, 2026, at his home in Little River, Texas. Born April 15, 1962, in Temple, Texas, Donald lived a life marked by dedication, humility, and a meticulous attention to detail.

Donald’s journey began in Temple, where he distinguished himself early on at Academy High School. He was a proud athlete, earning recognition for his four years as the number 50 on the football team and for his skills as a pole vaulter. These formative years shaped a character defined by perseverance and discipline.

Following high school, Donald began his career with Sears before channeling his entrepreneurial spirit into founding Curlee Construction, a business he successfully ran for over three decades. His reputation for excellence was unmatched, as there was truly nothing he couldn’t fix. Later in his career, Donald returned to the professional world as a project manager at Baylor Scott and White, continuing to apply his exacting standards to every task. He supported his brother's real estate business by obtaining his real estate license working for Nolan Creek Realty LLC

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Donald found great joy in the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, pursuing deer, dove, turkey, and hogs with passion. Time spent at his deer lease alongside his Uncle James Tilley remained especially cherished. Equally important was his love for travel, often enjoyed with Brenda, his devoted wife of 38 years, whether cruising or relaxing on sandy beaches. Baseball and softball also held a special place in his heart; he devoted countless hours coaching and serving as an umpire for local little leagues, imparting his love of the game to younger generations.

Donald’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Brenda Curlee; his son Randall Curlee and wife Audrey; his daughter Taylor Curlee and her husband Mario Montes; his brother David Southerland and wife Michaele; his sister Dawn Gaas and husband Harold; and three treasured grandchildren, Emerson, Charlie, and Collyns along with numerous with nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James "Jim" Curlee and Beverly Tilley.

Known for his modesty and humility, Donald’s friends and family remember him as a man of kindness and unwavering generosity. A special thanks is extended to Vincent Kasa and his wife Cheri, whose longtime friendship was a valued part of Donald’s life.
