Donald James Licatovich, affectionately known as Don and Grandpa Don, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 18, 1933, in DuBoise, Pennsylvania, Don lived a life marked by dedication, love, and service to both his country and his family.

Don’s early years were shaped by his education at St. Joseph Catholic School and DuBois High School. He continued his academic journey at Penn State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in horticulture. His passion for plants and gardening was a defining trait, particularly his fondness for daylilies, which mirrored his nurturing spirit.

His sense of duty called him to serve his country when he enlisted as a Pilot Officer in the United States Air Force. Don proudly served for 12 years before continuing his career with American Airlines, where he worked diligently for 26 years until his retirement. Throughout his professional life, he demonstrated commitment and perseverance, earning respect from colleagues and friends alike.

Don loved people deeply and was known for his warmth, humor, and engaging personality. He treasured the art of conversation, often brightening rooms with his jokes and stories. It was through a mutual friend that he met the love of his life, Jocelyn Voges. Their connection was immediate, sparked by a simple lunch date across the road. Together, they quickly found common joy in travel, polka dancing, and gardening—a testament to their shared zest for life that lasted over half a century. Don and Jocelyn celebrated 54 years of marriage, a partnership built on love and mutual respect.

Beyond his professional and personal relationships, Don indulged in hobbies that brought him joy and showcased his talents. An avid gardener, he found peace and fulfillment in planting and tending to his garden. His love for deer hunting reflected his outdoorsman spirit, while his impressive camera collection highlighted his keen eye for photography. He was the family historian behind the lens, capturing treasured moments at weddings, birthdays, and other significant events, creating lasting memories for generations. He was a member of the American Airline Grey Eagles, and Allied Pilots Association.

Family was at the heart of Don’s life, and he took great pride in his role as a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jocelyn “Mickey” Licatovich; his sons Michael (and wife Michaela), Chris (and wife Deanna), Eric (and wife Carrie), and Shawn Moore (and wife Carolon); his daughters Margaret Licatovich, Denise Burel, and Jocelyn Foerster (and husband Jon); seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. His legacy of love and family devotion stands as a lasting monument to a life well-lived.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Marcella Licatovich; his brother Paul Licatovich; and his sister Joanna Smith. They remain in cherished memory by all who knew them..
