Ervin John Mutton passed away in Temple, TX on October 26, 2026 at the age of 76. He was born July 6, 1950 in Buffalo, NY. Erv was predeceased by his parents, Clara and Ervin Mutton of Lancaster, NY.
He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1968. During high school, he became a volunteer fireman and could be found at the Twin District Fire Station which was conveniently located 2 doors down from his home. After graduation, Erv jumped right into the workplace excelling in anything mechanical. He became a Regional Manager with a territory covering OH, NY, PA, and KY selling hydraulic component parts to the fluid power industry.
Erv was predeceased by his 4 siblings, Marcia (Henry), Sylvia (Gerald), Elaine (David), and Kevin. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathryn (June) and his two children, his son Kirk (Melissa) of Liberty Hill, TX and his daughter, Melissa (Nick) of Gatesville, TX. Erv is survived by his 5 grandchildren, Danielle, Washington State; Nicole (Vishal), Leander, TX; Eric, Leander, TX; Julia, Gatesville, TX; and Shelby, Tallahassee, FL. Also surviving are his 2 precious great grandchildren, Jaxxson, Gatesville, TX and Nalini, Leander, TX along with several nieces and nephews. Erv loved fishing and hunting and was an avid gun collector. He was most proud of the 2 shotguns he had restored that he inherited from his Father, Ervin and his Father-in-Law, John June. Erv owned a couple of muscle cars and in his early years, he could be found racing at the Lancaster Speedway drag strip. He loved playing cards with friends and bowling. Erv and his wife often competed in tournaments as a semi-pro. He was a believer in UFO's and BigFoot. He documented several personal sightings of UFO's. Unfortunately, BigFoot was only seen on documentaries and TV shows. After retirement, Erv and his wife bought a Class C motor home to enjoy traveling along with their beloved sidekick, Blue (Blue Heeler/Border Collie mix). His most favorite spot was Eagles Nest, NM to escape the TX summer heat. Erv loved the cold weather and snow. After all, he was born and raised in Buffalo, NY! Spending time with family brought him joy especially cruises. Among his cruise travels were the Bahamas, Mexico, Honduras and most recently, Alaska! He was an avid sports fan cheering on the Buffalo Bills (NFL) and the Buffalo Sabres (hockey). Erv was passionate about helping others and a bigger than life personality. He could be found driving his Kubota Tractor on his TX ranch with his great grandson, 2 year old Jaxxson, teaching him how to operate all the levers. He was most proud of his family and will be profoundly missed!
At Erv's request, he will be cremated with his final resting place to be determined at a later date.
Funeral arrangements will be made by Young's Daughters in Temple, TX.
Contribution can be made in his memory in person, online, or mailed to Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road,
