Fred "Sandy" Otis Sandlin, Jr

Services for Fred "Sandy" Otis Sandlin Jr., 76, of Rogers, will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 30, 2023 in the Kaverly Chapel at Young's Daughters Funeral Home with Pastor David McMurry and Ali Mitachi officiating. Burial will follow at Greathouse Cemetery.  The services will have a zoom link provided below to login for the testimony hour and the service.

Mr. Fred O. Sandlin died on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.

Fred Otis Sandlin Jr., was born on April 5, 1946 to Mildred Juanita (Carlton) Sandlin and Fred Otis Sandlin in Abilene, Texas. He graduated from Cooper High School in 1964 and furthered his education by obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Education from McMurry University in Abilene, Texas and a Masters in Mid-Management through Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. He met his soul mate, Lynda Davis, while in college band. They married on August 3, 1968. Mr. Sandlin taught 6th grade social studies for Abilene ISD for over 30 years. ”Sandy" also pastored at Portland Ave Free Methodist Church in Abilene, Texas for 42 years until his retirement in 2012. After retirement, he enjoyed volunteering for the Kairos Prison Ministries. His hobbies included dry fly fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved Jesus, the Bible, and people.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years Lynda Sandlin; one son, Jonathan Sandlin and wife Alexis; one daughter, Kaylyn Cobb and husband Jonathan; one sister, Susan Nelson and husband Reid; three grandchildren, Galilee, Samaria, and Eden; and one nephew, Justin.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, with testimony hour beginning at 6:30 pm, on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the funeral home.
