Glenda “Joyce” Funderburk,

Glenda “Joyce” Funderburk, lovingly known by her grandchildren as “G-Mudda,” passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in Temple, Texas, and went to be with her Lord. She was born on April 27, 1941, in Rosco, Texas.

Joyce lived a life marked by faith, devotion to family, and a warm, spirited presence that touched many. She graduated from Sweetwater High School, where she performed as a majorette for the band, and later continued her education at Hardin-Simmons University, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Her professional life reflected both dedication and capability. She worked as a loan officer, then as a compliance officer for the FDIC, and later served as Vice President of Shelby Savings until her retirement.

She was a proud mother to her children and a woman whose personality left a lasting impression on those around her. Joyce was gregarious, outgoing, and quick-witted, with a spunky nature and a strong will. She was known for her hugs, for never meeting a stranger, and for always wanting to share the word of God. A godly woman in every sense, she loved putting God into people’s lives and worked to ensure that the Lord remained at the center of the lives around her. She could be stern when needed, and that strength was part of the steady, loving foundation she provided for her family.

Joyce also found joy in the everyday blessings of life. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, and worshiping. She kept a good home and was never one to sit still, bringing energy and care into all she did. She supported her husband's careers both during his military time in the Army and then while he was serving as Music Minister for over 50 years.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Funderburk, and his wife, Regina; and by her daughter, Kimberly Roberson, and her husband, Kevin. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Garrett Roberson and his spouse, Kelly, Kevin “Drew” Funderburk, Chayli Funderburk, Kimberlyn Roberson, McKynzi Roberson, Esther Funderburk, and Eden Funderburk. Each of them was part of the family she cherished so deeply, and her love, strength, and faith will remain with them always.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Knox Porter and Rubye Porter; by her beloved husband of 55 years, Billy Funderburk; two brothers, Ronald Porter and Royce Porter; and one granddaughter, Alyssa Jones.

Joyce will be remembered as a faithful woman, a loving mother and grandmother, and a person whose embrace, conviction, and joyful spirit made others feel welcome and seen. Her life was one of purpose, service, and unwavering belief, and her memory will continue to be treasured by all who knew and loved her.
