Ilene Phyllis Kaplan,
Ilene Phyllis Kaplan, née Remson, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026, in Troy, Texas, under the loving care of her daughter. She was 85. Born on February 7, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York, Ilene lived a life marked by devotion to her family, warmth of spirit, and a deep care for those around her. After a battle with congestive heart issues that led to kidney and liver problems, she departed this life with the same quiet strength that shaped the way she lived.
Ilene was known for her happy nature and constant smile, qualities that made her a welcome presence wherever she went. She had a memorable laugh and a spirit that left an impression on everyone who knew her. A great mother and a friend to all, she carried herself with deep love and loyalty, always placing the happiness of her children close to her heart. She gave of herself fully, doing everything a mother would and could do, and that steadfast care became one of the defining gifts of her life.
She also found joy in simple, meaningful routines. Ilene loved tending the grass, mowing, and weedeating, taking pride in caring for her surroundings with energy and dedication. These everyday acts reflected her hardworking nature and the satisfaction she found in looking after home and family.
Ilene is survived by her daughters, Cindy Nelson and Alise Kaplan. Cindy shared her life with her husband, Bryan Nelson, who also survives Ilene. She is also survived by her brother, Howard Remson; her granddaughter, Ashely Botts; and her grandson, Brand Nelson along with great grandchildren, Ian Botts, Faith Nelson, and Nicole Nelson. The family she leaves behind will continue to carry forward the love, care, and strength she gave so freely throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Kaplan, and by her parents, Louis and Sally Remson.
Ilene will be remembered with love for her kindness, her devotion as a mother, her bright smile, and the unmistakable spirit she brought into the lives of others. Her memory will remain a lasting blessing to her family and to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sabrina Young at Young's Daughters Funeral Home and Bereavement Center.
