Isabel Raquel Alderete, 70, lovingly known as Rachel, was born on December 17, 1954, in Temple, Texas. Rachel's journey came to a peaceful end on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at a local hospital in Temple, surrounded by her cherished family.
In 1974 she was blessed to become a proud mother with her son, Adam Castillo. Rachel was not only a dedicated professional; she was a loving wife who married Edward Louis Alderete. A grandmother whose family was her pride and joy. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and made it a priority to ensure that her family's milestones were celebrated honorably. As a wonderful mother and mother figure, she was nurturing yet knew when to be firm, always putting the needs of others before her own.
Rachel dedicated her life to her career and her family. She began her professional journey as a phlebotomist at a local hospital, where she devoted several years to helping patients. Her most fulfilling commitment spanned 8 years with Our Lady of Maternity Shelter, where her heart's passion shone brightly. Rachel was deeply invested in empowering women, striving to help them discover their potential and achieve future success.
Rachel's vibrant spirit was evident in her hobbies and interests. She loved being outdoors, gardening, and cooking, often spending countless hours tending to her garden and creating delicious meals for her loved ones. Her creativity flowed through her ceramic art, which she proudly made and sold at local market shows. Moreover, her loyalty to her favorite football team, the Texas Longhorns, was an endearing part of her character, as she enjoyed football date nights with her beloved husband.
Throughout her life, Rachel displayed resilience and a fervent work ethic, often taking on double shifts to provide for her family. Her years of honorable military service, having enlisted and served from 1980 to 1985, instilled in her many principles that will carry on through her son, Adam Castillo, as he continues to honor her legacy.
Rachel is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Edward Alderete; her son, Adam Castillo of Temple, Texas; and her brother; Moises Mares Jr. and wife Irene of California. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Miranda Castillo, and two great-grandchildren, Mayson Miller and Kamden Miller.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, Moises Mares Sr. and Ysabel S. Mares, as well as her siblings, Victor Mares, Jesse Mares, and Mary Cruz.
