Jim Deringo Valentino, formerly James Edward Jacobs, affectionately known as "Take'em," was born on December 30, 1951, in Houston, Texas, and he departed this life went to be with the lord on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in Temple, Texas. Jim’s journey through life was marked by a jovial spirit, a love for family, and a passion for making unforgettable memories.

He played as a quarterback football player where he graduated from Jefferson Davis High School and received his scholarship to further his education, Graduated from Texas Southern University where he earned an Associate's degree in Physical Therapy. His dedication to learning was matched only by his commitment to service; he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a cook and later re-enlisted into the Marine Corps as a marine security guard and served with President Nixon at the West Coast White House in San Clemente, California, upholding a proud legacy of service to his country.

Jim was known for his humorous and blunt personality, always offering practical advice and sharing a good laugh. He had a love for music, enjoying both singing and listening to old-school R&B and jazz at full volume, turning any gathering into a festive occasion. His culinary skills were cherished by those around him, particularly his intricate pasta and fish recipes, along with his love of carrot cake. He loved sharing home-cooked meals and exploring new recipes, finding joy in every dish he crafted for his loved ones.

He leaves behind two daughters, Tamara Jacobs and Crystal Valentino, who were his pride and joy. He often spoke fondly of them and rejoiced in his role as a father. Jim is also survived by three brothers, Michael Jacobs Sr., Tommy Jacobs Sr., and Jerry Wayne Jacobs; as well as two sisters, Emma Jacobs and Dorothy Thomas.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Henry Jacobs Sr. and Dorothy Mae (White) Jacobs, alongside two brothers, Henry Jacobs Jr. and Joseph Jacobs Sr., and two sisters, Beatrice White Alexander and Doris Jacobs Ellis. His presence will be sorely missed, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.

Visitation will be held at Young's Daughters Funeral Home & Bereavement Center in Temple, Texas, on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. The burial will take place at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas, beginning at 2:00 PM.

As we remember Jim Deringo Valentino, let us honor a life well-lived, filled with camaraderie, heartfelt connections, and the unwavering love for family that he instilled in all who knew him.
