Kapua Brooks

In loving memory, we gather to honor the life, however brief, of Kapua Brooks, who graced the world with his presence on May 14, 2023, in Round Rock, Texas. A son of profound promise and possibility, Kapua was welcomed into the hearts of his parents, Dominique Brooks and Alicia (Whitcomb) Durfee, with a mixture of surprise and overwhelming joy. His arrival was celebrated as a cherished moment, marked by the palpable excitement as they first glimpsed their soon-to-be boy in an early ultrasound at just 13 weeks.

As the family prepared to embrace their newest addition, they were guided by the warmth of anticipation and love. The thoughtful choice of his name, bestowed in honor of his paternal grandfather, reflects a lineage of cherished connections, bridging generations in this beautiful narrative of family. Kapua’s existence not only enlivened his household but filled it with dreams, hopes, and whimsical joys, including his mother’s delightful cravings for an array of cheeses during her pregnancy—a testament to the tenderness that surrounded him even before he took his first breath.

Though his time among us was tragically cut short as a result of an abnormal chromosome that interfered with his mother's ability to continue her pregnancy, Kapua's legacy, though fleeting, is firmly imprinted in the hearts of those who loved him. He is survived by his devoted parents, along with his siblings: one brother, Sage Brooks, and three sisters, Ailani Jewell Brooks, Riley Marie Durfee, and Reagan Emery Durfee. Each sibling will carry with them the memory of their baby brother, a reminder of the fragility and beauty of life.

In these moments of sorrow, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Heather Catona, whose unwavering support and caregiving have provided solace during this profoundly difficult time. The compassion and kindness shown by those around them serve as a testament to the love that envelops this family.
