Leslie Paul Treter, known to most simply as Paul, passed away unexpectedly on May 20, 2025, in Temple, Texas. Born on February 27, 1979, in Kansas City, Kansas, Paul lived with unmistakable spirit—shaped by both hardship and joy, always with a spark of mischief in his eye and purpose in his stride.

To Paul, family and friends were everything. He found joy in life’s simplest pleasures: firing up the grill, cranking up the music, and being surrounded by the people he loved. His legendary BBQs and laid-back movie nights were more than gatherings—they were events filled with laughter, love, and second (and third) helpings. His mix of grit and warmth made him the guy everyone wanted on their side—especially when the dominoes got serious. Paul thrived in good company. His get-togethers weren’t just about food; they were about connection. Nothing said bonding like sipping a cold one and passionately arguing that the Kansas City Chiefs will win again this year.

Though Paul had a few rough edges, he had a heart of gold—and nothing lit up that heart more than being around the ones he loved. His video calls with his grandson, Kadan Brooks, were never just “How’s daycare?”—they were more like “Ready to hear my best dad jokes?” Each call echoed with laughter, love, and a little mischief, just like Paul himself. In 2019, he met Tammy York, the woman he knew he’d spend the rest of his life with. By January 2025, he made it official and proposed—because when you know, you know. Tammy and her three children filled his life with even more joy, love, and purpose… and maybe just a few more people to test his joke material on.

Paul leaves behind his beloved children, Ariel and Malek Treter—living testaments to the love and values he poured into fatherhood. He leaves his fiancée Tammy, with a love so deep it’ll be hard for any man to ever match. He also leaves his father, Donald Treter; his siblings, Luke, Carl, Rick, Holly, and Heather; and his chosen brothers, Mark Bouldin and James Petersen—his lifelong ride-or-dies.

He is reunited with his mother Dorothy, his nephew Conner, his grandparents, and his loyal companion, Rocky.

Paul’s personality was big, bold, and full of soul. He loved fishing, camping, gaming, racing and late-night talks under the stars—usually with music playing and a good story on his lips. Beneath his tough-guy exterior lived a fiercely loyal, loving, and protective man.

Though his time with us was far too short, Paul leaves behind a legacy of unforgettable memories—funny, heartfelt, and full of life. He’ll be remembered for his laugh, his loyalty, his legendary brisket, and—of course—that ongoing debate about the Chiefs, which we imagine he’s continuing in the great beyond. In every shared story, every sizzle of the grill, and every warm memory, Paul lives on.
