Lisa Ann Hillegass, age 55, of Temple, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family and her unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ.
Born on April 18, 1971, to Walter and Meredith Stephens, Lisa grew up with a vibrant spirit that carried into everything she did. She graduated from Illinois State University with dual majors in International Marketing and French. Following college she embarked on international travels, and began a successful career.
Lisa found her deepest joy when she met and married her husband, Scott Hillegass. She was a fiercely devoted wife and a loving mother to Ryan (wife Carlene) and Alex (wife AJ). Together, she and Scott were widely known for their warm hospitality and active participation in their local church community. Her family was her pride and joy, and she poured her heart into supporting and loving them.
Above all, Lisa’s life was guided by her faithfulness to her Lord; living her life as a testament to the grace and love of Jesus Christ. She exemplified persistence and resilience throughout her courageous twelve year struggle against the debilitating effects of Multiple System Atrophy. Even in hardship, she demonstrated her love of God and people with her smile, encouraging words, kind gestures, spunky sense of humor, and deep connections. While the loss of Lisa has dimmed the lights down here, Heaven is just a little bit brighter today.
Lisa's passion was to make people's lives more beautiful. She achieved this through her affiliation with Ark2Freedom which works to prevent child trafficking and exploitation; and by volunteering at Feed My Sheep, which provides food, supplies and support to the underprivileged. She also blessed others with her stunning photography skills. Using her amazing eye to spot and capture the beauty of God's creation, especially flowers, her artwork continues to brighten many a home.
She is survived by her loving husband, Scott; her wonderful sons (daughter-in-laws), Ryan (Carlene) and Alex (AJ); her beloved parents, Walter and Meredith Stephens of Bloomington, Illinois; her devoted brother, Brian Stephens; her cherished niece, Avery Stephens; her beloved nephew, Zander Stephens; and a community of family and friends who will forever be inspired by her strength.
Two Celebrations of Life will be held to honor Lisa's memory. At her request, a game time will follow each celebration - please feel free to bring your favorite game.
