Phillip John Wolters,

Phillip John Wolters, affectionately known as Phil and Grandpa to those who loved him, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Cornerstone Gardens, a local nursing home. Born on August 23, 1952, in Muskegon, Michigan, Phillip lived a life marked by a free-spirited soul who cherished the simple joys of travel, nature, and family.

Phil attended Muskegon High School and honed his skills as a machinist during his career at Carters. Beyond his profession, he was a man of many interests. He delighted in working on cars, enjoyed a daily Coca-Cola, and was known for his storytelling prowess—his gift of gab enchanted family and friends alike. Outdoors, he found peace tending to his yard and taking walks, embracing every opportunity to be close to nature.

A defining chapter of Phillip’s life was his deep and enduring relationship with his beloved wife, Sharon McFadden Wolters, whom he met through a family friend. Their bond blossomed quickly, leading them to share 24 years of marriage filled with travel and adventure, creating memories that will be cherished by their loved ones.

Family was the cornerstone of Phil’s life, and he took great pride and joy in being a grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife Sharon; his daughters from his first marriage; Misty Forward and her husband Brad, Sara Crosswhite and her husband Byron, and Karla Barton and her husband Richard; sisters Paula Vanduinen and her husband Alan, Mary Jo Wolters and her husband Brent; as well as eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Their presence in his life was a source of immense happiness and a testament to the loving legacy he leaves behind.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, John Herman Wolters and Maxine Anna (Euler), and his brother William “Bill” Wolters.

His journey was not without challenge. On March 8, 2026, Phillip was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer, a reality he accepted with remarkable peace and dignity. Throughout his final days, he was surrounded by compassionate care, and a heartfelt gratitude is extended to the teams at Amedysis and Cornerstone Gardens for their kindness and support.

Phillip’s legacy is one of warmth, adventure, and enduring love. He shared his stories, nurtured his family, and painted a life abundant with moments both large and small that touched the lives around him. His memory will remain a guiding light for his family and friends, a symbol of the generous and free-spirited heart he carried throughout his years.

A cremation will occur and returned to the family to be scattered at a family cemetery in Michigan.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sabrina Young at Young's Daughters Funeral Home and Bereavement Center.
