Phyllis Kay Drake, affectionately known as Jay or Phiddy Kay, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at a local nursing home, having been reunited in her heavenly home. Born on August 5, 1959, in Portland, Maine, Phyllis grew up in Millbridge, Maine, where she attended Millbridge High School. Her early years in Maine were the foundation of a life marked by warmth, dedication, and a keen eye for life's simple joys.
Phyllis devoted much of her life to serving others, working as a custodian for the Belton Independent School District and also at the Grand Court in Temple. Her professional life reflected her helpful and caring nature, qualities that endeared her to colleagues and friends alike. Beyond her work, Phyllis was known for her engaging storytelling, infectious humor, and a remarkable talent for finding discounts—she was a true master of seeking out the best deals. She delighted in cooking, thrifting, yard sales, and enjoyed watching lifetime movies. Above all, she took immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren sharing her famous sweet tea, who were the light of her life.
She was immensely proud of her family and treasured the unique bonds she shared with each member, particularly as a grandmother. Phyllis is survived by her two daughters, Tammie Mata and her husband Richard Mata, and Jennifer Alvarez and her husband Scott Alvarez. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings Judy, Gwen, Becky, JoAnne, and Linda of Maine; her brothers Phil, Larry, and Norman; and her cherished grandchildren; Amy and her wife Alyssa, Kaylee, Brett, Keith, Dalton, Ilee, Brad, Paisley, Drake, Scott, Joe, Cash and one great grandchild, Wayne.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Chambers and Myrna (Hall); her beloved husband, Michael Drake; one son, Michael Drake; two sisters, Jeanne Door and Roberta Daris; and two brothers, Russell Chambers and Robert Chambers. Their memories will forever remain intertwined with hers, providing a lasting legacy of love and family.
