Susan Ruth Wills, affectionately known as "Susy," was born on July 6, 1958, in Ft. Gordon, Richmond. She passed away peacefully at home on January 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with breast cancer that began in 2022.
Throughout her life, Susan was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her. With a shining personality that drew people near, she excelled in her roles as a great aunt, sister, daughter, and friend. Her keen interest in the world around her made her a knowledgeable and engaging conversationalist. A graduate of Millikan High School, Susan retained her passion for learning throughout her life, dedicating herself to staying informed about local and global events, often found enjoying the news.
Susan dedicated 40 years of her life to Vons Grocery Company, where she demonstrated unwavering commitment and worked diligently until her retirement. Her career was not just a job; it was a testament to her dedication and a source of lifelong friendships with her colleagues.
Beyond her professional life, Susan had a wide array of interests that brought her joy. She loved traveling, testing her luck at casinos, and attending classic rock concerts, which filled her life with music and memories. Additionally, she cherished savoring a glass of red wine, which became one of her small joys in life.
Susan's proudest accomplishments included a deep and loving relationship with her parents, which culminated in her becoming her mother’s caregiver. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Michael Wills, with whom she shared 43 wonderful years of marriage. She maintained strong connections with her siblings, leaving a lasting impact on her brother, Wyley "Sonny" Scott II, and sister, Wylene Lacy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wyley B. Scott Sr. and Ruth (Swett) Scott, whose love and guidance shaped her into the remarkable person she became.
As we remember Susan Ruth Wills, we celebrate a life filled with love, resilience, and lasting relationships that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her legacy of kindness and knowledge will be cherished forever.
