Thomas Raleigh Dahl, affectionately known as Tom, was born on May 17, 1946, in Litchfield, Minnesota. He passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at a local hospital in Temple, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.
Tom graduated from Litchfield High School, where he was known for displaying remarkable athletic talent, participating in football and wrestling. His love for music also flourished as he was a member of the marching band, which is where he first crossed paths with Jean Carlson, the love of his life. They married in 1966 and were blessed with a daughter, Terri, in 1970 and a son, Keith, in 1973. Tom was immensely proud of his children, imparting essential life lessons such as courage and determination. He encouraged them to avoid dwelling in the past and to prudently prepare for the future.
After honorably serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army, Tom ventured into the restaurant industry. His career evolved at Steak and Ale, where he climbed the ranks and eventually retired in 2010 as the President of Bakers Bros American Deli. He took great pride in his hardworking ethos and dedication to his profession.
Beyond his professional achievements, Tom was known for his delightful personality characterized by a sharp, sarcastic sense of humor. He was a devoted family man who cherished the moments spent with his loved ones. Whether enjoying a fine meal paired with an exquisite bottle of wine or indulging in a good cigar, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Tom shared a passion for running with Jean, participating in competitive marathons, including the Honolulu Marathon in the early 1980s. Together, they enjoyed wine tasting adventures in regions such as Sonoma and Napa, showcasing their Appreciation for good food and the pleasures of the culinary world.
Tom's love extended beyond human family; he was a devoted caretaker of his beloved fur babies, forming unforgettable bonds with his pets.
He is survived by his son, Keith Dahl and his wife Janis; his daughter, Terri Dahl; and his brother, Larry Dahl and his wife Bonnie. Tom was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Jean, with whom he shared a beautiful journey for 59 years.
In celebrating Tom’s life, we remember not only his accomplishments but also the warmth and love he imparted to those around him. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
